On Strike

Last week barristers went on strike. Not that the general public noticed, or indeed cared. There are few votes in lawyers' fees and the Justice Department continues to seek cuts in an area which is rather less controversial than, say, schools and hospitals. But when barrister go on strike, the public should take notice. After all, the right to a fair trial is probably the most basic civil liberty of all.
