Leaving the firm

Leaving the firm

Associates leave law firms for three reasons. They go to another firm, hoping to make partner somewhere else, or they move "in-house" to become counsel to, say, Amalgamated Widgets PLC, or they give up on the whole business. Leaving on good terms is generally advisable, despite the strong temptaion to leave your cases in a state of barely manageable turmoil, ready to explode the minute you walk out the door. But the best way to leave is to line up a better job - difficult in the present economic climate. Sometimes the best thing to do is just walk. Check out our book "101 Ways to Leave the Law" for an indispensible guide to detonating your legal career.
