The First Ever QC Cartoon

Queen's Counsel was born on October 3rd 1993. At the time I was a law student, interviewing for pupillage at Barrister's Chambers in London. It's hard to credit now in the internet age, when information is so widely dispersed, but in the 1990s The Times' law pages on Tuesdays were read by just about everyone in the law. Anyone who didn't read them was considered essentially unserious about their job.

At my pupillage interviews I wasn't sure whether to mention the cartoon strip or not. Would it me out as interesting and different? Or put a big black mark next to my name? As it turned out, it was something of an advantage, something fun to talk about at an interview while I hoped they wouldn't ask me any tricky legal questions I knew I couldn't answer.
